Indianapolis Zoo is looking for Seasonal Animal Keepers to work with our Plains
animals and primates. Candidates will be responsible for the manual work involving
the care and maintenance of exotic animals.
There are strenuous physical requirements of this position, including but
not limited to:
Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions.
Ability to perform very heavy work, exerting at least 100 pounds of force
occasionally, and or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
Ability to climb and maintain body equilibrium while performing various
Excellent visual acuity and hearing required.
Possible occupational exposure (Category B employee) to human bloodborne
pathogens. Possible exposure to dangerous chemicals (e.g. chlorine
bleach, cleaning agents, etc.) Must follow Universal Protection
Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogens Guidelines.
display a professional appearance as well as a professional, positive and
enthusiastic attitude to both visitors and co-workers. Candidate must be
temperamentally suited to working with animals as well as with the public.
Must be safety oriented. Prior work experience involving animal care is strongly preferred. College
course work in a suitable animal-related field may be substituted for work
Weekend, holiday, overtime or varied-shift work will be required. Position starts
in March and can continue through Aug/Sept. 2013. The
pay for this position is $8.00 per hour.
