Age: Born at the Indianapolis Zoo on June 28, 2012 Weight: 345 lbs. as of 2012 Mother: Ivory Sire: Jackson
In 2012, Ivory gave birth to her third calf via artificial insemination. The little female was named through a Facebook contest as Nyah, an African name meaning “purpose.” Nyah is continuing to develop her personality as she grows. She doesn’t stray too far from her mom, Ivory, though she is definitely very curious. Nyah is starting to explore more of the exhibit yards with the help of her big sister, Zahara. There is a lot to take in being a baby elephant and she is enjoying learning all about using her trunk and growing up in a family group.
