Located in the Forests Biome between the Amur tigers and Alaskan brown bears, the Bats exhibit presented by ARAB allows visitors to get nose to muzzle with two of the larger varieties of bats — the island flying fox and the straw-colored fruit bat. Because bats are nocturnal, one of the best times of year for bat-lovers to visit is actually during Christmas at the Zoo, when the Zoo is open late and animals stay out until 9pm. But with their large eyes and good vision, these bats are also active during the day, not just at night. So you should see lots of “batty behavior” no matter what time you visit.
Often misunderstood and needlessly feared by people, bats are vital to nature, with many of the more than 1,000 bat species consuming huge amounts of insects, while others pollinate many important plants. Their conservation is vitally important to saving the natural world. Learn more about these fascinating, but strange-looking creatures, at the bats exhibit at the Zoo!
